Gionee F103 Pro Physical Overview

This phone belongs to the fashion-series of Gionee and hence the looks of the phone are the prime concern for the company. It surely looks impressive in its first appearance but the deal would have been sweeter if they used metal in place of plastic. It comes with a plastic back with matte metal finish, chamfered edges and 2.5D curved display which gives it a premium look makes the device eye candy for its price. Though it’s made out of plastic, it look and feels good in hands.

Front Top features a earpiece grill, Proximity and Ambient light Sensors and front camera.

At the bottom there are 3 touch capacitive navigation keys but sadly they are not backlit.

At the back, there is primary Camera with a LED flash on the top left part  and a Gionee Logo in the center.

At the bottom of the back part, there is brand name “Gionee” written followed by a speaker opening underneath it.

On the right side there is a power button and volume button. The left side is totally clean with absolutely nothing.

Micro USB port and Primary mic are at the bottom edge.

3.5 mm jack is situated at the top part.

There is a micro-SD card slot, SIM slots and a removable battery underneath the back cover

Display

This device features a 5-inch IPS LCD display with a HD (720p) screen resolution. The device has got a water drop glass display (2.5D curved display) imparting the device with a solid and gentle feel at the same time. The display is sharp with nice colour saturation and the curved glass, which looks really appealing. The viewing angles and the color reproduction is very good looking at the price it comes for.

Camera Overview

Gionee F103 Pro is embraced with 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera allowing a clearer selfie even at a low light. The camera app has got Face Beauty, HDR, Night Mode, Panorama, Professional, Time-Lapse, Smart Scene, Text Recognition, Macro, GIF, PicNote, Ultra Pixel, Smart Scan, Mood Photo. The pictures taken from the rear camera came out to be really good with good bokeh effect. The pictures were sharp, had good amount of detailing and a good colour balance. The rear camera has pretty fast auto-focus. The front camera also takes good images in good lightning condition. It also has got something called “front screen flash” which acts as a flash by flashing the display while clicking a selfie.

Gaming Performance

I played Modern Combat 5 on this handset, and as we know it is not the heaviest of the games but demands intense graphic performance. The game was running very smoothly on this phone, in fact better than what I actually expected. There were minor frame-drops in busy areas but it was negligible. This phone can take on graphic intense games like Asphalt 8 until and unless you haven’t overloaded the CPU with multiple apps. I didn’t face heavy lags or stuttering in the test and the graphics were also rendered pretty well. Gameplay was good but the device was heating up a bit while gaming, I played Modern Combat 5 for 25 minutes and noticed a battery drop of 14%. The highest temperature in a cool room was noticed as 44.2 degrees Celsius.

Conclusion

This phone has a good set of specs, great camera and a decent look & design. One of the better things about the phone is its UI, it feels good to use if you are not a stock Android fan. Though this phone comes only with a HD display but the 2.5D curved glass display makes it look really appealing and pleasing at the same time. Use of a better chipset would have been great but overall it performs quite decent and the camera really impressed us. There is not a lot to complain about the phone other than the battery backup, but it still would have been perfect if the price was set to be slightly lesser.
