Based on Bloomberg reports, users enrolled with this advanced protection program will be able to block third party apps completely from accessing their accounts. Moreover, the highlight of this program is that it introduces a Google powered USB Security Key to protect accounts.

This new Advanced Protection Program is aimed at high value Gmail accounts. The report specifically points it to be aimed at corporate executives, politicians and others with heightened security concerns. With a rise in security concerns and high profile hacks being reported with every passing day, Google is preparing their next-level security measures. This security concern picked pace specially after Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign chairman’s account got hacked. In case of a 2 Step Verification process, you have to enter your ID and password, as well as verify another code which you get as a text message or on the Google Authenticator app. However, with this new Advanced Protection Program you can verify via the USB Key.

This USB Key also ensures that you are entering your details only in an official Google page and hence do not fall victim to a phishing attack. Moreover, G Suite admins will be able to force their users to compulsorily make use of the USB Key to log in, thereby enforcing safety. This is all set to give security a major boost and protect unsuspecting users against phishing and hacking attacks as the accounts will be inaccessible without the key. More updates on this are expected to be announced soon. Source: Bloomberg
