Design

The Realme U1, just like its previous model, comes with a matte finish and laminated rear panel. Its glass-like back is good and is not slippery either. The Honor 8C’s body is all plastic but the build quality is good. Though the smartphone feels less premium as some rivals come with glass- and metal back. Realme U1 looks more attractive with its glass back.

Up front, the Realme U1 sports a new dewdrop notch which is small than regular ones and also houses a few sensors. While the notch on the front of Honor 8C is wider one and also it has more chin at the bottom. The form factor of both the phones is similar in terms of size and weight, but Realme U1 has more screen to body ratio.

One additional feature in Realme U1 is Gorilla Glass protection. However, Honor 8C has no such protection. Overall, Realme U1 has an upper hand in terms of design and build quality.

Display

The Realme U1 sports a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio because of the new notch. On the other hand, Honor 8C sports a 6.26-inch HD+ IPS display panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The Realme U1’s display looks better, thanks to FHD+ resolution and new notch.

Cameras

Realme used a 13MP+2MP rear camera combination for its new phone. The Realme U1’s rear camera clicks good pictures in all conditions. But the highlight of the phone is its selfie camera. For selfies, it has a 25MP Sony IMX 576 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and portrait mode. The Realme U1’s front camera is impressive.

The Honor 8C also has a dual camera set up at the back and also boasts of having AI features. The 13MP+ 2MP shooters with little larger aperture size perform well in all conditions. The 8MP front camera, however, is not up to the mark. Overall, both the phones click good pictures in all lighting conditions. Sometimes Honor 8C offers better detailing and sometimes the Realme U1. In terms of front camera, the Realme U1 is a clear winner. Anyhow they both can click impressive shots for your social media profile.

Performance

Both the Realme U1 and Honor 8C are packed with the latest chipsets. The Realme U1 powered by MediaTek’s Helio P7 12nm chipset with up to 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and storage up to 64GB. It is an improved processor and is good for multitasking and gaming. The Honor 8C has also used Qualcomm’s latest mid-range Snapdragon 632 chipset which is based on 14nm tech. They both offer better gaming performance without any lags. We played PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9 on both the phones and there is not much difference in terms of performance. However, P70 performs better in multitasking and other functions. We can see a considerable gap between the AnTuTu benchmark scores of both the phones.

Software

Software-wise, these both phones offer quite a different user experience. The Realme U1 runs its own ColorOS on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo. The Honor 8C is also running the Android 8.1 Oreo with its EMUI 8.2 that offers several new features. Both the UIs are lightweight and smooth, but they also a lot of unwanted apps and bloatware. However, the user interface choice depends on personal preference.

Battery and Connectivity

The Realme U1 packs a 3,500 mAh battery while the Honor 8C has a bigger 4,000 mAh battery. Both the phones do not support fast charging. They both have the usual connectivity options like Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, and micro USB port. The Realme U1 sports dedicated SIM card slots and microSD card slot. But, Honor 8C has hybrid slots. They both have all the necessary sensors as well.

Conclusion

As you can see, both the phones compete head to head against each other. At Rs. 11,999, Realme U1 offers better display, better hardware and better front camera. Honor 8C, on the other hand, at the same offers better build, bigger battery and more RAM. Both the phones are good justifying their prices, but if you are going for a newer looking device with better hardware and better selfie camera, Realme U1 could be a good option for you.
