Honor 8 Is Nicely Designed, But How and Why?

Honor 8 Charging

The Huawei Honor 8 comes with the company’s own SoC. Manufactured by Huawei under the HiSilicon brand, the Kirin 950 SoC comes with an octa-core processor. The phone comes with a 3000 mAh battery that can last you through a day’s worth of usage normally. Huawei has bundled a regular 9V/2A charger with the Honor 8, which should charge the phone in roughly an hour and 15 minutes.

Honor 8 Battery Life

In our real life testing, we found that the Honor 8 does indeed take roughly the same amount of time to charge. The Honor 8 took about 85-90 minutes to charge from 0-100%, with everything turned on – GPS, Sync, Mobile Data and Wi-Fi. When we needed the phone to have a decent amount of charge before heading out, it took the Honor 8 about 10 minutes of charging to give us a backup of over 1 hour of normal usage. In our parlance, normal usage means the usual texting, a few minutes of calling, checking Twitter/Facebook.

Honor 8 Heating vs Battery Drain Test Results

We have been testing the Honor 8 thoroughly while travelling and gaming. Over the last few of weeks of testing, the phone has been a very good performer, as you will find out in our in-depth review of gaming and battery here. The phone handles the latest graphics intensive games with ease, while delivering a very good experience while watching videos. [table id=725 /]

However, gaming and videos always end up being the biggest battery drainers on our phones. These two aspects use up battery because of the processing power required and the constant use of the screen.

Conclusion

The Kirin 950 SoC also handles heating very well – Huawei has done a good job with the optimization on the Honor 8. As you can see in our gaming test results above, the phone never crossed 42C even after gaming for an hour. NOVA3 is a very resource hungry game that can take a toll on the phone’s battery as well as heat it up considerably, so we were happy to see that the Honor 8 handled it well enough. In the end, the convenience of being able to quickly charge the phone especially while watching videos and gaming is fairly under-appreciated.
