If they could have started from the very beginning then definitely all the processors would not have been dependent on ARM architecture. But Intel has played a very fine move and then have revealed ‘Silvermonte’ which basically uses 22 nm process which is claimed to perform 2 times faster as compared to the current Atom chips and moreover the power-consumption is times 5 times lower as compared to the current Atom Chip.
As of now no ARM architecture based processor has been able to obtain such stats and it seems that the advantages that ‘Silvermonte’ has to offer may change the game. The power consumption is the biggest problem in all the gadgets these days and this problem is common in both Android smartphones and iPhones and is this new architecture by Intel can reduce this problem up to almost 5 times then this architecture will be easily accepted by all the processor manufacturing firms.
On this, Dadi Perlmutter, Intel executive vice president said “Silvermont is a leap forward and an entirely new technology foundation for the future that will address a broad range of products and market segments. Early sampling of our 22nm SoCs, including “Bay Trail” and “Avoton” is already garnering positive feedback from our customers. Going forward, we will accelerate future generations of this low-power micro-architecture on a yearly cadence.” You can get to know about the details of this here. As far as the tablets and phones are concerned then you will see them after 1 year and not only in smartphones or tablets, they can be used in automobiles, micro-servers but primarily they have been designed for smartphones and tablets.
