Display and Processor

Canvas Doodle 3 features a large 6 inch display with a resolution of 854×480 pixels that is too low resulting in a poor pixel density of 163 pixels per inch. In comparison, being a mid-range phone, the Canvas Doodle 2 incorporates a slightly smaller 5.7 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen display boasting HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels that translates to an average pixel density of 258 pixels per inch. Hence, the Canvas Doodle 2 wins this segment with a better display that delivers excellent viewing angles. Again, in terms of processing power the Canvas Doodle 2 is the winner with a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor ticking at 1.2 GHz clubbed with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Canvas Doodle 3 on the other hand includes a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6572 quad-core processor. While the yesteryear model features 1 GB of RAM, the current one includes a mere 512 MB of RAM. Of course, with a quad-core processor and bigger RAM, the Canvas Doodle 2 fares well in the multi-tasking department.

Camera and Internal Storage

For imaging, the Canvas Doodle 3 includes a 5 MP primary camera that is teamed up with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera. In comparison, its predecessor includes an impressive 12 MP rear snapper alongside auto focus, dual LED flash and 1080p video recording. Also, there is a good 5 MP snapper on the front of Canvas Doodle 2 for users to capture selfies and for video calling. While the Canvas Doodle 3 packs 4 GB of internal storage that can be expanded externally up to 32 GB, the Canvas Doodle 2 includes a solid 16 GB of onboard storage that cannot be expanded due to the lack of an external memory card slot. While the users preferring huge internal storage would like the Canvas Doodle 2, the former will be the choice for those opting for expandable storage that can let them store all their content.

Battery and Features

On the battery front, the Canvas Doodle 3 being an entry-level phone comes with a juicy 2,500 mAh battery, while the Canvas Doodle 2 features a 2,600 mAh battery that is only a slight upgrade compared to its other specs. Both the handsets run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system and they are packed with connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and micro USB 2.0, hence there could be no complaints in this segment. But, Micromax could have used the Android 4.4 KitKat platform for the Canvas Doodle 3. Further, the Canvas Doodle 2 features a slew of software features such as M! Doodle app that allows users to create doodles and taking notes using stylus. It has the lock screen feature that came along with the Canvas 4 – M! Unlock that lets users to unlock the phone by blowing air or by shaking the device. There are a plethora of other applications as well pre-loaded in the Canvas Doodle 2 to enhance the user experience. On the other hand, the Canvas Doodle 3 comes along with a free magnetic flip cover like the Samsung S View cover.
