Camera and Internal Storage
Micromax has provided with a 16 MP auto focus primary shooter at the back supported by LED flash and capable of 1080p full HD recording. Micromax does mention a Largan M8 lens for sharp images (same as the one seen on Gionee Elife E7 camera) and Ominivison CameraChip sensor but shys from further details. The front 8 MP shooter is fixed focus camera. Micromax has not mentioned if this too can record high definition videos. The camerazzi feature which lets you create Gif files (the one which debuted with Micromax Canvas Turbo) is also part of camera software. The internal storage is 32 GB which is quite impressive at this price range. The storage is not expandable. Out of the 32 GB onboard memory, around 26.5 GB will be available at users end.
Processor and Battery
The processor used is MT6592T true octa core which houses 8 Cortex A7 based cores clocked at 2 GHz. The chipset has 32,000 Antutu Score according to Mediatek and that means its raw processing performance is at par with the like of Snapdragon 800, though we can’t claim the same for the modem, DSP and other elements on SoC.
We expect all games and apps to run smoothly. The chipset is coupled with 2 GB DDR2 RAM for efficient multitasking. When we spotted the phone on Antutu prior to its release, it had scored 26,000 points. The Battery capacity is 2350 mAh which according to Micromax will offer 175 hours of standby time and 7.5 hours of talk time. The battery backup is lesser than what one would expect from high end devices. The battery, however should last one day with low to moderate usage.
Display and Other Features
The display used is 5 inch 1080P Full HD display and comes from Sharp Technologies. Lava Iris Pro 30 made a big deal out of itsSharp IPS LCD display which we didn’t find particularly stunning. We are eager to test Micromax’s offering with higher Full HD resolution. The operating system is the same old Android 4.2 jelly bean, but we are optimistic about a KitKat update some time in distant future. The phone also supports several gesture features and comes with Yamaha Amplifer for loud audio. The Canvas Knight supports Dual SIM connectivity. It will come preloaded with apps like Hike, Spuul, Opera, M Live, M Vault, Real Steel, Where is my water, Where is my perry, Getit, BBM, True Caller and Kingsoft Office.
Looks and Connectivity
The phone is quite Sleek with only 7.3 mm of body thickness. Phone comes in three colors. The Champaign gold bezels are most probably designed from faux metal and the back panel has glass finish. Connectivity features include 3G HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with AGPS support
Comparison
The Micromax Canvas Knight A350 is the first one in its class with octa core chipset and 5 inch full HD display. It will compete with phones like Intex Aqua Octa, Gionee Elife E7 and Samsung Galaxy Grand 2.
Key Specs
Conclusion
Micromax has a competitive product at hand which is priced just right. The phone offers a crisp display, powerful processor and a 16 MP camera all for a competitive price tag.
