Display and Processor

The latest generation of Moto E boasts of a 4.5 inch display with a qHD screen resolution of 960×540 pixels. The screen is layered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and has an oleophobic coating as well. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is given a 4.7 inch display with a HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels. With a relatively larger display with better screen resolution, the Redmi 2 is definitely a better offering. This display is given the Gorilla Glass 2 protection as well.

The Moto E 2015 comes in two variants – 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 200 processor for the 3G variant and a similar Snapdragon 410 chipset for the 4G LTE model. The Redmi 2 is identical the latter as it also comes equipped with a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 410 processor onboard. Both the smartphones arrive with 1 GB of RAM to handle multi-tasking efficiently. When it comes to the graphic handling capabilities, the Motorola phone has Adreno 302 for the 3G variant and Adreno 306 for the 4G LTE one. Again, the Xiaomi phone is identical to the 4G LTE model of the Moto E 2015 with Adreno 306 graphics engine.

Camera and Internal Storage

The second generation Moto E uses a 5 MP primary snapper with auto focus and HD 720p video recording ability. Also, the device includes a VGA front facing selfie snapper onboard. While this is an improvement when compared to the yesteryear model, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is much better with an 8 MP primary shooter with LED flash, auto focus and FHD 1080p video capturing capability. At the front, the latter is given a capable 2 MP selfie snapper with HD 720p video recording support.

In terms of storage, both the devices pack in 8 GB of default memory capacity that can be expanded further by another 32 GB using a micro SD card. These are standard aspects in this price bracket and hence, we have no issues in this regard.

Battery and Features

The Moto E 2015 uses a 2,390 mAb battery that seems to be juicier than the 2,200 mAh battery in the Redmi 2. The backup rendered by these batteries remain unknown and we need to wait to for a complete review to know more on this regard. The Motorola smartphone is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, whereas the Xiaomi Redmi 2 runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top. There are connectivity features such as 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/GLONASS and micro USB 2.0 in the smartphones. Moto E 2015 features an impressive design with removable and replaceable side borders under which the Micro SIM and MicroSD card slots are housed.

Price and Conclusion

Undoubtedly, the Moto E 2015 and Xiaomi Redmi 2 arrive with impressive pricing for their specifications and features. They bring in impressive features for such low pricing and some of them include 4G LTE support that is penetrating into mainstream these days. Their predecessors were sold like hot cakes in the Indian market and we can expect the same from these new models as well.
