Notion Ink CAIN Windows 8 Tablet + Laptop Hands on Review, Features and Overview

Design, Build and Display

The Notion Ink CAIN Windows 8.1 tablet has a metallic finish design, but it’s actually good quality plastic. All ports are present on the left edge and these include, MicroUSB, USB 3.0, HDMI, 3.5 mm Audio Jack and a slot for MicroSD card. The other edge is neat and blank, but you can remove the plastic shell on top for data card ports.

The Display and build quality are pretty good if you compare them with other Windows 8.1 tablets. The weight is well balanced and the tablet feels good in hand. The 10 point multi touch display with 1280 x 800 pixels is decent enough considering the large form factor. The keyboard which doubles as a protective case provides tactile feedback and is quite good but with slightly small keys.

Processor and RAM

The 2-in-1 laptop houses a Intel Baytrail Z3735D quad core processor based on silvermont micro-architecture. The chipset is clocked at 1.33 GHz (Turbo Frequency = 1.83 GHz for 2 cores) and is aided by 2 GB RAM (DDR3). The chipset seems capable enough for handling all your day to day productivity tasks smoothly. We didn’t notice any lag in our brief time with the device.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Notion Ink CAIN Windows 8.1 tablet has two 2 MP fixed focus shooter at front and back which can be used for basic video calling. Not many would be interested to use the 10.1 Inch tablet form factor for primary photography and perhaps a good quality front facer alone would have sufficed.

Internal storage is labeled as 32 GB, but on our hands on model we saw 33 GB of free storage (out of 53 GB total storage). MicroSD card slot is also present for further expansion by another 32 GB. You can also use flash drives and external hard disks to augment storage.

User Interface and Battery

The tablet runs on Windows 8.1 OS and can double as a portable laptop. The target audience is productivity intended users and the latest Windows OS will keep everyone happy. Users will get Ms Office 365, One Note, outlook and Skype pre installed.

Notion Ink claims up to 10 hours of web browsing and 7 hours of Video playback from 7900 mAh battery housed inside the 9.7 mm thick chassis. If true, the battery backup would definitely be admiration worthy.

Conclusion and Price

The Notion Ink CAIN Windows 8.1 tablet is exclusively retailing on snapdeal for 19,990 INR although its presently out of stock. The metallic grey colored tablet looks like a good affordable Windows 8.1 tablet for productivity oriented users with a decent battery and build quality. So if you are looking for a combination of laptop and tablet, Notion Ink CAIN is definitely worth considering.
