To answer these questions, we’ve compared these two phones in detail- including their design, display, cameras, and other specs, to know how different they are.
OnePlus 8 Vs OnePlus 8 Pro
Design: Similar
The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro both sport a glass back with 3D Gorilla Glass protection, a metal frame, and curved edges on both front and back. These two come in Black and Green colors. However, the OnePlus 8 is also available in Interstellar Glow and the OnePlus 8 Pro comes in Blue color additionally. The OnePlus 8 is also the slimmer and lighter than the OnePlus 8 Pro. The former measures at 160.2 x 72.9 x 8mm and weighs 180g, while the latter measures 165.3 x 74.35 x 8.5mm and weighs 199g.
These both have in-display fingerprint scanners and dual stereo speakers. So there’s not a huge amount of difference here. However, one big difference here is- OnePlus 8 Pro comes with an IP68 waterproof rating.
Display: 90Hz FHD+ Vs 120Hz QHD+
Display-wise, both the phones look the same and there is a Fluid AMOLED screen with HDR10+ support. The displays also have a single punch-hole camera in the top left corner. But there are some big differences here as well. The OnePlus 8 sports a 6.55-inch display with FHD+(1080 x 2400 pixels) resolution, while the OnePlus 8 Pro features a 6.78 inches screen with higher QHD+resolution at 1440 x 3168 pixels.
Moreover, the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the OnePlus 8 comes with a 90Hz screen, though that’s still higher than the standard 60Hz screens. So, the OnePlus 8 Pro’s display is larger, smoother, and even sharper than the OnePlus 8’s.
Cameras: Quad Vs Triple
The OnePlus 8 sports a triple camera setup at the back with a 48MP f/1.75 main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera.
The OnePlus 8 Pro, on the other hand, comes with quad-rear cameras which include a 48MP f/1.78 main lens, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, an 8MP telephoto one with 3x hybrid zoom, and a 5MP color filter camera.
So the OnePlus 8 Pro has more and probably better cameras on the back. Both phones have the same 16MP selfie camera.
Performance: Similar, but some diff.
Both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are powered by top-end Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM. However, in OnePlus 8, there is LPDDR4X RAM, whereas in OnePlus 8 Pro you get LPDDR5 RAM.
Both devices come with 128GB or 256GB storage choice. Both also support 5G and run Android 10 with the company’s OxygenOS.
Battery & Charging: Wireless charging on 8 Pro
Talking about the battery, the OnePlus 8 packs a 4,300mAh one and the 8 Pro gets a slightly bigger 4,510mAh unit. Both devices support Warp Charge 30T fast charging, but the OnePlus 8 Pro also supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.
Price: $200 more for 8 Pro
The OnePlus 8 price starts at $699 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model and goes up to $799 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The OnePlus 8 Pro starts at $899 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model and goes up to $999 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. So you will have to pay $200 more for the 8 Pro.
Wrapping Up
The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro both come with some similar specs and features, and also have some differences as well. These have a similar design, same chipset and software, and some similar features like an in-display fingerprint scanner. Talking about the differences, the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a bigger, smoother screen, more cameras with a newer sensor, faster RAM, bigger battery, and wireless charging. All these make it a better phone, but it also comes at extra cost, so it may not be a good value for money. If you really don’t care much about the differences, OnePlus 8 is a flagship phone.
