Samsung claims that its Tizen OS can work smoothly even on devices with 256 MB RAM. Samsung is yet to establish itself in the sub 10K budget Android battle between domestic manufacturers, established Chinese players and Global brands, and perhaps the Tizen OS would help it navigate in these troubled waters. However, all that’s for later. For now, Samsung is expected to unveil a high end device running Tizen OS, perhaps the Samsung Z, which was launched earlier this year as the first Tizen smartphone. Samsung has been testing waters with bloatware for quite some time now. Even on Android, Samsung phones come pre installed with apps like Samsung Apps store, ChatOn, calendar, Games, Samsung Browser and many more in parallel with similar Google Apps. Samsung is also relying on its content based services to sail through in Indian market.Samsung expects around 2 million users for its content services till next year. According to Samsung, device makers can deliver such services better than telecoms. “We started late, but we are very focused. We are not shooting in the wild. This is a game that has to be led by the device manufacturer and not the pipe (telecom operators),” Tarun Malik, director of media solutions center, told ET The first Tizen smartphone is expected to reach India around Diwali. Samsung enjoys a huge brand loyalty in India, and perhaps a low cost Tizen device with Samsung branding could help Samsung compete in entry level market in a better manner than its Galaxy portfolio.
