Previously it was expected that Xiaomi will launch the Mi 7 in its flagship Mi series after the Mi 6. The Mi 7 was leaked briefly several times and was expected to be launched at MWC 2018, but that did not happen. A Chinese tipster had claimed that the 8th Anniversary Edition phone from the company would be launched as the Xiaomi Mi 8 and the company has now confirmed this.

The image of a retail box with large “8” was leaked on Chinese website My Drivers. Moreover, a leaked screenshot has also surfaced online that shows the company has already started selling tickets for the upcoming event that is scheduled for May 31 in Shenzhen.

Apart from disclosing the event date, the images also reveal that the tickets for the event are priced between CNY 799 (roughly Rs. 8,500) and CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 21,300). Also, the event will host around 5,000 people. With such a big crowd, the company is expected to launch several new products. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has even told that more than one devices will be launched at the event. So, apart from the Mi 8, the Mi Band 3 fitness tracker could also be launched as well along with other accessories. The report also confirms the existence of the Xiaomi Mi 8th Anniversary smartphone. The product name was also spotted on the Chinese version of Mi Store app. Also, another image showcasing a front panel placed inside a plastic cover with Xiaomi Mi 8 mentioned over it revealed via SlashLeaks. The image shows a wide notch on the top of the display and the device appears to be sporting ultra-thin bezels on each side. The image showing the 3D face recognition module of the phone was also leaked. It is claimed that Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone will feature advanced 3D facial recognition system similar to iPhone X’s Face ID.
