We reported about this upcoming phone a few months back, and now there’s been a leak again with a launch around the corner. Yes, we’re talking about the XOLO Q2000, the 5.5 inch phablet from XOLO that is yet to release. However, we already know what the phone is going to have under the hood, which enables us to go ahead with this quick review of the device!
Camera and Internal Storage
13MP is the new 8MP. Well, this is what at least the trend at the moment seems to be; what 8MP was about a year back is now 13MP. That is to say, most flagships now flaunt 13MP main cameras, and that’s exactly what the XOLO Q2000 does as well. Domestic branded phones with 8MP cameras do a pretty good job, you can expect this 13MP BSI 2-enabled shooter to do more or less the same quality but with the added pixels, as well as better low-light imaging. On the front, the device does not go for ‘bling’ and comes with only a 2MP unit which is practical in a way, since most in India hardly use the front shooter. Featuring 8GB of storage, which is heartening to see since manufacturers previously offered only 4GB, the device will have a microSD slot for further expansion. You probably will be able to spend a few weeks with the internal storage (which is expected to be around 6GB for user files) but then there will invariably be a need for greater storage space, which you can achieve using a microSD card of your choice of capacity.
Processor and Battery
The phablet will come with the 1.2GHz quad core processor, housed on the MT6589W chipset from our favourite, MediaTek. Apart from the quad core processor, the chipset features a 357MHz PowerVR SGX544 GPU, as seen on the MT6589T as well, making it a more powerful chipset than the standard MT6589. The device will also have 1GB of RAM, so you can expect a decent level of performance from the device. Your daily apps and games won’t face any lag usually, however if you start throwing hardware intensive stuff at the device, you might be left dejected. The phone will have a 2600mAh battery, which is quite impressive for a domestic branded phone, since we’re used to seeing much smaller capacity ones. XOLO claims this 2600mAh unit will give you up to 12hrs of 3G talktime 577hrs of standby, which seems like a tall claim but is impressive nonetheless.
Display and Features
The XOLO Q2000 will come with a 5.5 inch screen, which seems to be the demand for the hour at the moment. An HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels will be powering the 5.5 inch screen, translating into a pixel density of 267ppi which is not great but not too bad for a phablet as well. With a 5.5 inch screen, you’re guaranteed to have an enjoyable multimedia experience without the device being too bulky or too pocket-unfriendly. Just that you might, at more times than one, need both hands to use the device with ease. The device will come with Android v4.2 preinstalled, and with a weight of 180g, it will be a bulky one.
Looks and Connectivity
The device more or less is an extrapolated version of OPPO’s Find 5 which came in at the start of this year. Nonetheless, the phone does look good, but might be a tad heavy for some as mentioned before. The Q2000 will feature the regular connectivity options like 3G, WiFi 802.11, Bluetooth, GPS and USB OTG.
Comparison
The device will have innumerable competitors, most coming from Indian brands like Micromax. Here are the prime candidates which will threaten the sales of this phablet: Micromax Canvas Doodle 2, Swipe MTV Volt, Karbonn Titanium S9, etc.
Key Specs
Conclusion
The phone does seem impressive, but a lot would depend on pricing. XOLO usually go aggressive with pricing and have their phones priced lesser than similarly spec’d Micromax phones, so we expect this device to be somewhere in the range of Micromax Doodle 2, but can’t say for sure. The 13MP camera, 2600mAh battery and the free flip cover and OTG cable do seem lucrative enough, and a good pricing should see XOLO make a good market out of the phone!
